Benefits are paid by the Government when people aren't working.

There are different kinds of benefits.

There is a place called the Department for Work and Pensions that manages benefits.

The Disability and Carers Service can tell you what benefits you can get.

There are different benefits

There are different types of benefits that you can be paid.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
For people who have a disability that stops them working in a paid job.

Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)
For people who are looking for a job.

Housing Benefit
For people who don't earn enough to pay the rent or house costs.

Council Tax Benefit
People with a learning disability or their carers pay less Council Tax.

Who can get a Benefit?

Benefits are given to people who are entitled to them.

You can claim benefits for yourself.

You can ask someone to help you get the benefit if you can't so it by yourself.

If you live in a residential home the Manager has a duty to make sure you are getting the right benefits.
