Why you should Complain
Sometimes people ignore your rights.
They might not know the law.
They might know the law but not care.
When your rights are ignored you can complain.
Complaining lets the person know that they are wrong.
How to Complain
In a Shop.
- Tell the assistant that you want to complain.
- Tell the Manager what is wrong.
- Tell them what you want them to do.
- If they don't help write a complaint to them.
- You can also get advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau.
- If you need help ask your key worker.
Going Out.
- Tell a staff member what is wrong.
- Tell them what you would like.
- If they don't help ask for the Manager.
- Tell the Manager what is wrong.
- If they don't help write a complaint to them.
- You can also write to Trading Standards.
At Work.
- Talk to your Manager.
- If they don't help talk to a more senior person.
- A senior person might be the Owner, Managing Director, Board of Directors, or the Personnel Department.
- Unions will usually help you complain.
- Serious complaints can end with an Industrial Tribunal.
At Home.
- If you rent a house tell the landlord.
- You can get advice from Shelterline free phone 0808 800 4444.
- If you live in a group home or in residential care talk to a staff member or the Manager.
- Your Key Worker can help you complain.
- An independant advocacy service might be able to help.
In Public.
- If someone abuses you they might be breaking the Law.
- Hitting, stealing, or threatening is very serious.
- If it is very serious, phone the emergency number 999.
- You can complain at your local police station.
