Getting Paid Work
NIACE have a training pack for people with learning difficulties who want to work.
The 'We can do a good job' pack is about how people with learning difficulties can make the jump from courses and training about work to actually getting a job.
In the pack, people with learning difficulties who have made the jump and are working, talk about what helped them to do this.
Who is the pack for?
The pack is for people with learning difficulties who might:
- Already be on a training for work course at a college, adult education centre or day centre.
- Be thinking about going to college to do a course or get a job.
- Be working, but want to do more training to get a different or better job
What is in the pack?
The pack is written in clear language with pictures. There is a CD version of the pack that you can listen to. This is included in the pack.
The pack looks at:
- Choosing the right course
- Choosing the right sort of work
- Getting support
- Benefits
- Paid work
- Voluntary work
- Self-employment
- Co-ops and community businesses
- Changing jobs
At the back of the pack there is a word bank to explain any words that are hard to understand.
The 'We can do a good job' pack costs £15.00.
There is also a book, 'Making the Jump - Transition to Work', for staff. The book is about how staff can support people with learning difficulties to 'make the jump' from learning about work to getting a job. The staff pack and 'We can do a good job' can be bought together as a set for £60.00.
