Volunteering
Volunteering is when you do work without getting paid.
Charities and not-for-money organisations have volunteers.
Volunteers have some of the same rights as people who get paid.
Volunteering is good experience, worthwhile and can be fun.
Places to Volunteer
Volunteering for an organisation is a way to find out more about what they do.
You can find out what it is like doing that type of work.
You can volunteer for a charity or not-for-money organisation.
Charities do different types of work...
- Get practice doing office work.
- Learn how to train people by volunteering for an advocacy charity.
- Look after animals with animal charities.
- Learn about care looking after children at a creche or kindergarton.
- Practice working in teams with other people.
Places to find Voluntary work
- Ask a charity you know about if they have volunteers. There are organisations that help people with a disability volunteer. In the Big Issue and some Newspapers. At your local Volunteer Centre. Look in the Phone Book under Charities. In organisations magazines or newsletters. Ask your friends or people you know.
What kind of Work?
Think about what you enjoy doing.
- What hobbies or interests do you have.
- Do you want to work in teams or by yourself?
