Work Laws
The Law at Work
There are different laws about work.
Employment Law describes what you should get from your work.
When ever you work paid or unpaid you have rights.
If you get Paid
If you are in a paid job you should get the minimum wage.
- You should have a job contract that says what you will be paid.
- You should pay tax on money you earn. If you work then your benefits might be changed.Sometimes the Government will pay some of your wage.
In your Job
- You should have a safe place to work. Your work place should not be too loud, too hot or too cold. You should not be bullied or threatened. You should get breaks and time for lunch. There should be a safe place to leave your property. Your work should not make you stressed. You are allowed to join a union which will give you advice.
Work and Disability
It is against the law to discriminate because of disability.
- There are jobs that not everyone can do because they have a disability.
- Your work place should have access.
- The Government can provide special equipment to make work accessible.
- The Supported Placement Scheme pays part of your wages.
Places that can help you get your rights
- Ask Citizens Advice Bureau. Your Union if you belong to one. An Independent Advice Centre. A Community Legal Service. A lawyer (but you will probably have to pay them).
